It has a fine body characteristic of a German-style decoction Black Forest Hefe-weizen - $6.00 This golden-yellow wheat beer is a hybrid style using ale yeast, but under going a short period of aging at lager tempuratures. Hefe-weizen has the refreshing aroma of authentic Bavarian weize. | Black Forest Sticke - $5.00 Alt means “old” in German, and represents a style of beer prior to the isolation of lager yeast. It is tradition in Germany for many alt bier producers to bi-annually release a slightly stronger, hoppier version of their classic beers to honor their patrons; these are known as sticke (German for secret) beers. The date of release is seldom known (hence the term secret), and only the regular patrons of the brewery will have the good fortune of trying the stronger alt version. Black Forest Brown Ale - $5.00 Brown Beers probably have the most diverse range of attributes of any beer style. Somewhat like a porter, though not as dark or dry, brown ales defied style guidelines until the last century. In England two variations exist; southern and northern, sometimes referred to as mild ale and brown ale respectively. The southern style is sweeter and lighter in alcohol than the northern style. Our brown ale is in the American style, sometimes referred to as Texas brown. American browns are generally separated from their English counterparts by an increased hoppiness, and little or no diacetyl (buttery aroma/flavor). |
